Team Captain Thunder U Experience

This year’s orientation was called Thunder U. My project focused on giving students (freshman, transfer, and non-traditional) at SUU tours of campus during orientation in order to help them find their classes. This program involved a decorated booth where Presidential Ambassadors and myself began the tours. We took all students interested in touring to their Fall 2016 classes. We made sure to point out the Writing Center, the Testing Center, and the Library so they knew about these resources and where to find them. The tours are a new orientation program that I created and implemented alongside Chelsea Buck (the new coordinator of Orientation) and my partner Natalia Rementilla. This project is meant to help new students have an easier transition.

I was also a Team Captain at orientation. Being a team captain meant mentoring a group of students that I was in charge of all throughout Thunder U.

Being a Team Captain and giving tours was a significant part of Thunder U that helped me use and gain leadership skills. I truly enjoyed the interaction that I was able to have with a variety of new people. Natalia and I could not have been more pleased with the outcome and are excited to see how the Orientation Day Tours develop and evolve in the years to come!
